Besides Son Doong, Quang Binh now has another natural cave system for visitors to conquer and explore.

Referring to the famous natural cave system in the world in general or in Vietnam in particular, most visitors will immediately remember the name Son Doong. Son Doong Cave was discovered by a forest worker in Phong Nha in 1990 and in 2009 was surveyed and drawn by a group of British-Vietnamese cave explorers. In 2013, the cave was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest natural cave in the world.

With a total length of nearly 9km, a large dome with a volume of up to 38.5 million cubic meters, and underground rivers, fossil corridors, sinkholes or the famous Vietnamese wall, Son Doong cave gradually becomes a favorite and desirable places of adventure travel followers.

Son Doong Cave is always the dream destination of adventure travel believers.

However, getting a visit to Son Doong is not easy. Each year, this place only welcomes 1000 tourists in the period from January to August at a cost of more than 70 million VND/person. In addition, each visitor when registering for the Son Doong tour also has to take a fitness test, if successful, he can join the journey.

If you are not eligible to explore Son Doong, adventure travel believers can now choose another name, which has been announced recently. Also located in Quang Binh and deep in the core zone of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, there is the Hung Thoong cave system.

Hang Thong cave system has a unique and different beauty

Hang Hung Thoong, also known as Thong valley, was once considered the most pristine place of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park when it had never been visited before. The cave system includes many other caves such as Tron cave, Hung cave, mountain lake, Thung cave or Nightmare sinkhole. According to experts, this is a unique and very different cave system. The cave is named Hung Thoong because it surrounds the stream of the same name.

Inside the large and deep caves are stalactites dating back thousands of years with many beautiful colors and patterns. In addition, in Hung cave, people have discovered a system of crystal-like straws with a drop of water at the end of each emulsion tube.

Deep inside the cave will be an underground lake. For example, in Tron cave is a blue lake, about 1km long. Here, guests can experience swimming at the lake or relaxing SUP boat rides. Swinging, climbing over the cliffs or camping are also interesting experiences when visiting Hung Thoong.

Another special feature in Hung Thoong is the sinkhole and mountain lake. If there are 2 sinkholes in Son Doong, this number is only 1 in Hung Thoong. A sinkhole is a hole caused by the subsidence of soil and rock on the surface when the soil below is gradually hollowed out to the point where there is no longer enough connection to support the rocks above. As a phenomenon that comes from nature and is somewhat dangerous due to the unique topographic structure, but to admire a sinkhole is still the dream of many tourists as well as natural beauty enthusiasts. Hung Thoong’s sinkhole is called Nightmare with a depth of 250m.
