This animal is easy to raise, easy to take care of, reproduces evenly, and sells at a good price, which has helped Mr. Phuc earn a large profit without much effort.
Mr. Truong Van Phuc (38 years old, living in Tan Tay commune, Go Cong Dong, Tien Giang) is currently the owner of the largest peacock farm in the West, worth many billions of dong. From the profit from the sale of peacocks, Mr. Phuc has just built a 3,000m2 ornamental farm specializing in tourism.
Mr. Phuc said that in 2000, when he was a student of agriculture and forestry, he had a passion for poultry farming. When he can contribute a small amount of money, he buys some Dong Tao chickens to raise.
Mr. Phuc is currently raising peacocks for local business.
He said that peacocks are easy to raise, less sick and eat less, the same food and care as chickens.
Favorable job, after graduating from school, Mr. Phuc expanded the barn, raising more precious poultry such as pheasants and star chickens. In 2009, Mr. Phuc bought 3 pairs of peacocks from India to try.
“At that time, no one raised peacocks, and the price of peacocks was also very expensive. I try farming because I hope to have great profits. As expected, peacocks are very attractive, the popular market is not competitive, so the price is very stable. Realizing the effect, I sold all other poultry to get a barn to expand the herd, “said Phuc.
Peacocks with rare feather colors are very valuable.
Peacocks give birth in the spring, each year a female peacock gives birth to about 25 peacocks. The 2-year-old bird begins to mature and reproduce, and the eggs are brought by Mr. Phuc to the chickens to keep the mother healthy.
Mr. Phuc said that peacocks are easy to raise, have few diseases, eat less, and the food and care is similar to raising chickens. In just a short time, Mr. Phuc has multiplied the herd to over 100 individuals and has remained stable until now.
Currently, Mr. Phuc’s farm has varieties of peacocks possessing rare feather colors such as purple, flowers, and gray, each pair’s value is over VND 50 million. Peacock breeds with common feather colors such as blue, white, and five colors are also priced at over 15 million VND per pair.($1=24,000 VND)
Every year, he earns 300-500 million VND from raising this noble bird.
Peacocks are quite large in size and weight. The adult male peacock weighs over 5kg, is about 70cm tall, and the tail feathers are over 1.5m long. The female has a short tail, weighing about 4 kg.
Peacocks are characterized by the colorful tail feathers of male birds. In the morning, male birds often crow and spread their tails, performing beautiful dances to seduce their mates.
“The work of raising peacocks is quite light, safe and stable. Buyers are mainly people in villas or tourist areas. Deducting all expenses, every year I earn over 300 million VND in profit from the flock, in a highly effective year, it can reach 500 million VND,” Phuc said.
Mr. Dang Thanh Tai – Director of Go Cong Dong District Agricultural Service Center said that Mr. Phuc’s effective public husbandry model for many years has become an address for farmers to visit and study in the region.
