The old farmer invested billions of dong to climb to the top of the coconut tree for customers to pick fruit
The system of stairs and corridors passes through the treetops, leading to the coconut chamber. Guests can hand-pick the desired coconut, pick it down and enjoy it right under the foliage.
Mr. Doan Van Khanh (67 years old) is the owner of a large coconut garden in Song Thuan commune, Chau Thanh, Tien Giang. In the past, his family only picked coconuts to sell to traders or brought them to the gate to sell to passers-by.
In recent years, Mr. Khanh has noticed that customers are increasingly “spending”, willing to pay a lot of money to drink the freshest and best quality coconut water. In addition to recognizing that the demand for green tourism and eco-tourism in the region is growing rapidly, Mr. Khanh decided to “play big” to invest more than a billion dong to build a system of stairs to the top of coconuts for guests to climb and pick fruit.

“I have been making this system of stairs since 2020, with a total length of more than 500m, running around the garden, with a path leading to coconut chambers for guests to choose from. Initially, I intended to only build ladders for guests to climb up and pick. then climbed down, but many people said they wanted to sit back and rest, drink coconut water to the top of the tree, so I invested in a staging system and the road was always,” said Mr. Khanh.
Mr. Khanh’s truss system includes stairs leading up and down, an elevated corridor nearly 1m wide, more than 500m long, surrounding the garden, and branches leading to the top of coconut trees and huts for guests to rest. All truss systems are made of sturdy steel.
In the garden, besides coconuts, there are sapodilla, orange, grapefruit, and many other fruits. Visitors to the garden can also fish, harvest fresh honey, and most importantly enjoy a peaceful, fresh and cool space.
Mr. Khanh added that because of the large investment and unique services, the price of each coconut is also higher than the common ground. Visitors are free to visit, but each coconut picked down will cost 100,000 VND.
“In the garden, there is a very high percentage of waxy coconuts. If a customer wins a waxy coconut but doesn’t use it, the garden will buy it back for 200,000 VND. Since the garden opened, it has welcomed a lot of guests, including famous actors. Many people even told me that I should open a cafe, restaurant or a treehouse to attract customers”, Mr. Khanh shared.
Passersby pass by Mr. Khanh’s house, when they know a strange service, all want to experience and express their satisfaction and interest.
Ms. Nguyen Hoang Oanh (36 years old, living in Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang) after being led to Mr. Khanh’s coconut garden by a friend, brought the whole family to experience it.
“Very strange, everyone likes it, the coconut garden is large and cool, the coconuts are very large. The garden is free, I went with a large group, but only 3 people drank a coconut, it was very cheap”, Ms. Oanh shared. .
