Strange job in Vietnam: “Cut” the tree to get the water right away, the spicy wine is not drunk
This “water” is considered an attractive specialty, not everywhere…
The special thing about this plant is that the wine has a characteristic flavor that is “brewed” deep in the trunk. That is the wine Doak.
For residents of Dak Plinh commune here, wine from the Doak tree is considered a premium drink that is hard to match.
It is known that the beginning of January is the time when Doak trees begin to bloom, bear fruit and produce the most aromatic wine.
The share of the harvesters, when taking wine, must choose trees with a lifespan of more than 15 years. At this time, the roots of the tree have penetrated deep into the ground, absorbing nutrients from natural spring water, thereby giving off the characteristic sweet taste of the wine.
Besides, the distance from the tree to the stream bank is also one of the factors that determine the deliciousness of the wine.
In particular, the Doak trees that grow far from the stream will secrete less wine than usual, while the trees that grow next to the stream will produce a slightly acidic wine.
After many observations and experiments, residents of Dak Plinh commune have realized that the ideal distance for Doak trees to produce the best wine flavor is about 30m from the stream bank.
To harvest wine from the tree, the worker needs to prepare a very sharp ax, measure the distance from the top to the stem of the tree about 2 inches, and then cut it down with a decisive blow.
It sounds simple, but in fact this is a job that requires high precision, because the technique of cutting trees will directly affect the quality of the wine.
When harvested properly, this plant will produce a white wine, with a bit of pungent taste, a strong aroma and absolutely no intoxication for the drinker.
With skilled workers in Gia Lai, it only takes about 10 minutes to harvest 5 liters of Doak wine.
In addition, a really tall ladder will be a “effective assistant” to make wine harvesting easier and safer.
Although Doak wine is sold on the market for only about 15,000 VND / liter, but with skilled workers, it is completely possible to earn enough money to cover life.($1=24,000 VND)
