    And the place where you can witness that “worldly beauty” is Binh Lieu – a border district of Quang Ninh. Binh Lieu has 43,168km of border with China. The North borders Ninh Minh district (Sung Ta city) and Phong Thanh area (Fang Thanh city) of Guangxi province (China). The South borders Tien Yen and Dam Ha districts, the East borders Hai Ha district (Quang Ninh) and the West borders Lang Son.

    How to move?

    Up to now, traffic in Quang Ninh province is considered quite complete and continues to be upgraded. Therefore, even though it is a border district, moving to Binh Lieu is not too difficult. Previously, this place was famous only for “travelers”, but now, families only need a steady “driver” to be able to conquer the roads through the mountains. 

    Binh Lieu is located about 270km from Hanoi, about 130km from Ha Long city. To get here, visitors can choose to take a limousine with a frequency of about 1 hour/trip from Hanoi, average ticket price is 300,000 VND/trip. It will take about 3 hours and 50 minutes to get to Binh Lieu district center. 

    Meanwhile, many families also choose to drive themselves. From Hanoi, drive towards Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway, then at the expressway intersection turn to Hai Phong – Ha Long direction, towards Van Don – Mong Cai expressway, follow National Highway 18C to get there. Binh Lieu. 

    Journeys not to be missed when coming to Binh Lieu

    Border landmark road

    A “specialty” of Binh Lieu is the milestones marking territorial sovereignty, which are also the pride of the people of the country. The route to conquer border milestones is also a patrol route for border guards, lasting more than 50km. Therefore, it is always kept clean, the road is not too complicated and difficult to follow, but you will be able to cross rolling mountains and admire the poetic scenery of the border land.

    There are 4 Vietnamese – Chinese landmarks that should not be missed in Binh Lieu: milestones 1300, 1302, 1305 and 1327. Many people choose to walk to get to one of the 4 milestones, but many tourists also choose to rent a car. The machine runs along the road so you can visit all 4 landmarks. Regarding the exploration journey, visitors can ask for advice from the border guards to choose the appropriate route.

    From the center of Binh Lieu, if you want to reach milestones 1300 and 1302, visitors should drive towards Highway 18, towards Hoanh Mo, turn to Ngan Chuong village in the direction of milestone 61 and move about 8km further along the trail. 

    Milestone 1327 is located in Phat Chi village, Dong Van commune. The road from the district center to milestone 1327 is also a road that passes through many other border milestones.

    Conquering the “dinosaur spine” 

    In the journey to conquer border milestones, 1305 is chosen by many people. Because this is also the road with the legendary “dinosaur spine” and is also the highest landmark in Quang Ninh province. Many people also compare this road to the “Great Wall” of Vietnam because of its length, slope as well as its wildness. 

    Standing here, we feel small before the vast nature. Take in the panoramic view of Binh Lieu, with reed fields and deep green mountains or in the distance there are villages submerged in poetic terraced fields.

    Homestays in the clouds

    The accommodation model in Binh Lieu is quite simple and is mainly homestays. Not to mention, it is quite far from tourist destinations. However, the big plus is that most homestays are in very beautiful locations, visitors can experience a simple life but also close to nature, clearly feeling the culture of ethnic minorities. Some addresses are highly rated according to the experiences of previous tourists. 

    Hoa So Homestay: This is the homestay with the largest area, with many beautiful decorative corners and spacious rooms. The rooms here all have panoramic views of Binh Lieu, overlooking reed fields, terraced fields and high mountains. 

    Binh Lieu Farmstay: Many people love it because this place not only has accommodation but also has a flower garden nearly 2 hours wide, planted with all kinds of flowers, blooming all year round. Here, visitors can rent tents like backpacking, located in the middle of hills and mountains filled with flowers and grass, and there are also hazy shooting angles amid the mist. In addition, there is also a corner to drink coffee and watch the mountain clouds. However, the road to the homestay is a bit steep and winding.     Cao Ly Homestay: This place has a unique A-shaped design. It is also located quite high, so if in the early morning or late afternoon, the clouds float, it seems like the whole resort is submerged in a sea of ​​white clouds. 

    A Dao Homestay: This place is designed in the stilt house style of the Dao people. Nestled between mountains and hills, it is quite quiet but has a large space to organize fun activities, cultural exchanges, and campfires. 

    Song Mooc House: This homestay has a panoramic view of Binh Lieu terraced fields and border mountains and forests.

    Binh Lieu cuisine

    Binh Lieu is home to many ethnic groups such as Tay, Dao, San Chi, Hoa, Kinh… Therefore, the cuisine here is also an intersection of ethnic cultures. Coming here, visitors can enjoy specialties such as: Black chicken, stir-fried pho, dong vermicelli, coc-mo cake, tai long eep cake…

    In addition, if you come on October 21, there is also a New Rice Festival in Binh Lieu, held at Luc Na communal house, Luc Hon commune, Binh Lieu district. 

    Some notes for your trip to Binh Lieu

    The distance between locations is not close to each other, it usually takes about 1 hour for a 20km – 25km road, there are also some steep passes, and some vertical slopes. If you are not sure how to drive, you can hire a local guide for about 500,000 VND – 600,000 VND/day.

    Regarding the landmark route, visitors should go to 1305 early in the morning, around 4-5 am, so that when the sun is high at 9 am, they will have the most beautiful photos without being too hot, making the climb less difficult. .

    You should go to milestone 1297 in the afternoon to watch the sunset.

    You should choose comfortable clothes and wear sneakers to avoid slipping and make walking easier.
