“ I know that building a Japanese garden and koi pond is expensive, complicated and takes a lot of time, but because I was so passionate, I decided to invest nearly 10 billion VND in cash, not including land. I had to travel to many places, find out the finished garden samples to compare and choose. In addition, I also learned a lot of knowledge about Japanese architecture and culture, ” said Mr. Nam.

“To come to a final decision for a satisfactory design, I had to hire 3 people, each design was based on the idea that I drew. The cost for each village is 15 million VND, then only one copy is selected for construction” , Mr. Nam added.

“A koi fish over 100cm in size, meeting criteria such as beautiful and unique colors can be valued at hundreds or even billions of dong. Thus, the cost for an aquarium with all types, sizes of sturgeon 50 – 60cm, the number of over 30 fish also costs billions of silver. Thus, at a glance, the Japanese garden and koi pond are also up to 10 billion VND” , said Mr. Nam.

Japanese garden hobby, koi carp not only attracts giants in Hanoi but also attracts many giants in other provinces and cities. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son (Phu Ly, Ha Nam) is also a giant with a passion for this hobby. Son said, being a hotel and restaurant business, in 2017 he invested in buying a 6,000-square-meter land in the suburbs of Phu Ly to build a wedding restaurant. Because of the large area, Mr. Son only built 50%, the remaining area is for gardening and fish ponds for guests to watch and relax before entering the party.

According to Mr. Son, with the number of more than 140 fish, each costing 10 million VND, his whole fish money also costs nearly 1.5 billion VND. In addition, Mr. Son also invested in 2 ancient green pots, costing nearly 1 billion VND.

“In order to have a garden space, bonsai, and aquarium like today, if you calculate it roughly, it’s worth nearly tens of billions of dong,” Mr. Son said.
